The symptoms of hypothyroidism include feeling tired and lethargic, weight gain, dry skin and brittle hair, becoming forgetful and sometimes depressed, feeling cold and enduring constipation as well as menstrual irregularities in women. This test checks the level of the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in blood to verify a thyroid physiological alteration.
Intended for
The TSH screening should be performed yearly by women from 35 to 64 years-old with healthy lifestyle.
Why Should I Perform the Test?
The TSH level in blood gives an indication of the physiological condition of the thyroid. TSH, which is secreted by the pituitary gland, regulates and controls the activity of the thyroid gland. Therefore, a raised TSH level indicates an under active thyroid and this is the principle on which the Thyroid Test is based for the detection of the hypothyroidism condition.
Checking the normality of the TSH value is a very good tool for verifying thyroid health status and eventually taking the required preventive actions. In case of cancer, early detection and prevention can be life saving.
How Does It Work?
The home health test is based on an immunochromatographic reaction correlated to the reference laboratory test. The cut-off is calibrated at 5 µIU/mL according to the international standard.
1) The sample is a blood drop taken with the painless sterile lancet contained in the box.
2) Obtain a big drop of blood by squeezing the finger.
3) Put the drop of blood on the indicated point on the device.
4) Add the diluent, wait for 10 minutes and read the result.
While the thought of pricking your finger might make you squirm, don’t fret! This test is a breeze compared to dragging yourself to the GP. Plus, you’ll have results in just 10 minutes – quicker than you can say “hypothyroidism” three times fast!
Remember, though: home tests aren’t a replacement for professional medical advice. If your results are abnormal or you’re still feeling out of sorts, it’s best to chat with your doctor. They might want to run more comprehensive tests to get the full picture of your thyroid health.

ZS –
Easy to use although one of the finger prick devices didn’t work (there was a second one) and that’s why only four stars. Assuming the result was accurate, this is a good alternative to NHS waiting lists and gives a result in minutes.
