Today on Day 12 we reach the last of the four Moldex earplugs in the Women’s Earplugs Sample Pack: the Moldex Spark Plugs. On paper they share several characteristics with yesterday’s Pura Fit – extra-soft foam, tapered shape, 100% PVC-free, shaped for small ear canals. But there are meaningful differences in performance and heritage that give the Spark Plugs a distinct identity of their own. They carry a slightly higher SNR rating, they have one of the longest track records as an anti-snoring earplug of any product in the pack, and they have a visual personality that makes them instantly recognisable. They are also included in our Men’s Earplugs Sample Pack.

One of Our Most Proven Anti-Snoring Earplugs

For many years the Spark Plugs have been one of our most popular earplugs specifically for blocking out snoring, and that longevity is worth taking seriously. Snoring is a particularly demanding test for an earplug. It is low-frequency, irregular, and often loud enough to penetrate earplugs that handle steady-state noise perfectly well. The Spark Plugs’ SNR 35dB rating, combined with the extra-soft low-pressure foam that stays comfortable through a full night, makes them well suited to this specific challenge in a way that not all earplugs in the pack can match.

Our customer Pauline, who has used them on many occasions, describes them as perfect for a quiet night – soft and comfortable, and notably on the smaller side, which she felt made them more suitable for women. That observation aligns with Moldex’s own specification that the Spark Plugs are shaped to fit even very small ear canals – a detail that distinguishes them from several of the higher-attenuation earplugs in the pack that are sized for average to larger canals.

SNR 35dB: The Highest Moldex Rating in the Pack

At SNR 35dB the Spark Plugs sit at the top of the Moldex range within the sample pack – 2dB above the Pura Fit at 33dB, matching the Contours at 35dB, and well above the Mellows at 22dB. While 2dB is a modest step up from the Pura Fit, it is worth having in a sleep context where every decibel of attenuation contributes to an uninterrupted night. Moldex themselves describe this as the highest independently tested noise reduction figure for this product, which adds credibility to the rating beyond the standard laboratory measurement.

In practical terms, 35dB is enough to reduce heavy snoring registering at around 60 to 70dB down to 25 to 35dB at the ear – approaching the level of a very quiet room, which for most people is more than sufficient for sleep.

Spark Plugs vs Pura Fit: How to Choose

Since these two Moldex earplugs share several characteristics, a direct comparison is useful. Both use extra-soft, extra-light tapered foam. Both are 100% PVC-free. Both are shaped for smaller ear canals. The differences are: the Spark Plugs have a slightly higher SNR (35dB vs 33dB), making them the better choice when maximum attenuation is the priority; the Pura Fit is longer in body, giving it a handling advantage during insertion that the Spark Plugs do not quite match; and the Pura Fit comes in biodegradable paper pouches while the Spark Plugs are individually wrapped pairs. If your primary use case is sleeping and snore-blocking, I would lean towards the Spark Plugs for the extra 2dB and their proven anti-snoring track record. If you want an earplug that works equally well for sleep, travel, work and motorcycling, and you value ease of handling, the Pura Fit is the more versatile choice.

The Visual Identity: Coloured Streaks and Swirls

The Spark Plugs have one of the most distinctive visual identities of any earplug in the pack. The characteristic coloured streaks and swirls running through the foam are unique to Moldex Spark Plugs and serve as a quality mark – Moldex instructs customers to look for these as a symbol of authenticity. Beyond that, the bold colouring makes them easy to spot on a bedside table and hard to lose if dropped. In a product category where most earplugs are beige, orange or yellow, the Spark Plugs have a personality that customers either love immediately or do not particularly care about – but nobody mistakes them for anything else.

Extra-Soft Foam for All-Night Comfort

Like all four Moldex earplugs in the pack, the Spark Plugs prioritise a low-pressure seal. The extra-soft, extra-light foam expands gently inside the ear canal to create a snug fit without the outward force that causes soreness during extended wear. For side sleepers in particular – who put direct pressure on the earplug against a pillow throughout the night – this low-pressure characteristic is one of the most important comfort factors to consider. The tapered shape also aids removal: a slow twisting motion breaks the seal gradually rather than abruptly, which is more comfortable and less likely to cause irritation than pulling a tightly sealed cylindrical earplug straight out.

My Verdict

The Moldex Spark Plugs round off an impressive four-earplug showing from Moldex in the sample pack. They bring the highest SNR of the four Moldex options, a long-established reputation as one of the best anti-snoring earplugs in our range, extra-soft low-pressure foam that suits smaller ear canals, and a visual identity that makes them impossible to confuse with anything else. If sleeping and snore-blocking are your primary use case and you have found the Moldex comfort philosophy suits you after trying the Contours or Pura Fit, the Spark Plugs are the logical next step. Both our Women’s Earplugs Sample Pack and our Men’s Earplugs Sample Pack include them alongside the other three Moldex earplugs, giving you everything you need to find your Moldex favourite.

Tomorrow on Day 13 the series moves to its final foam earplug: the Mack’s Slim Fit – a narrow, shorter earplug designed specifically for people with smaller ear canals who need a reliable everyday foam option rather than a sleep specialist.
