Snore Mufflers are fantastic earplugs from our friends at Mack’s. They are made from high quality silicone that is soft to mould and can be shaped easily to fit the unique contours of your individual ear. Once fitted, Mack’s Snore Mufflers are super comfortable. They are designed to cover your ear canal only. This means that they apply no pressure at all to the ear, which makes them such a pleasure to wear, especially when in bed.

If you have a snoring spouse, then we would recommend Mack’s Snore Mufflers. They also work wonders when trying to silence noisy neighbours! You can also use them whilst travelling on an aeroplane, to help make the journey that bit quieter.

In industrial applications, these earplugs can be used in industrial noise environments up to 107 dB. The bright orange colour of the earplugs is also useful at work, as it makes the earplugs easier to spot for compliance checks.

FAQ for Mack’s Snore Mufflers

How long can Mack’s Snore Mufflers be used before they have to be replaced?

These Mack’s earplugs can be re-used until they are not sticky or until they get dirty (maximum 5 uses). Make sure your hands and ears are clean before handling/inserting the earplugs. This will help to extend the earplugs’ lifespan.

What is used to make silicone earplugs and do they have latex?

There is no latex in the earplugs which are made of non-irritating, mouldable silicone rubber.

Can the earplugs be cleaned?

No. Always clean ears and hands before handling/inserting the earplugs which will help to extend their lifespan.

What other tips can be used with the earplugs to get an airtight/watertight seal?

Begin by reading the directions carefully and insert a new pair of earplugs and be sure your ears and hands are clean and dry. Moldable silicone earplugs are made to adhere to the surface of dry and clean ears. Even if the earplugs are being inserted in an environment that is moist and/or dirty, still make sure that your hands are dry and clean before inserting or re-inserting the earplugs. If this isn’t done, you might not get a proper seal.  When the seal is good, your voice will sound more exaggerated and internal. Finally, use the earplug to cover the ear canal beginning from the rear and going in the direction of the face. This produces a suction effect by squeezing out air from the air canal prior to sealing it shut. The prior technique has to be practiced a bit; however, it creates an airtight seal when done properly.

Can the earplugs be broken in half to accommodate smaller ear sizes?

No, because the earplugs are made so that the ear canal will be covered. Breaking them in half might result in the user pushing them too far into the ear canal which will make them hard to remove. For kids under 6 years old, we suggest using Mack’s® Kid’s Size Silicone Earplugs.

If the earplugs are exposed to warm temperatures, will they melt?

No. It is possible that the earplugs could become more pliable at higher temperatures, but they won’t melt. In lab tests, the material withstood temperatures over 350o F. (The normal hot tub and sauna temperatures are 104o F and 170o F respectively.) So far, no tests have shown shape transformation or melting (instability).

Are mouldable silicone earplugs recommended for use with flying discomfort? If so, how and when should they be used?

Since the early 1960’s these earplugs have been used when flying and users have said they do reduce discomfort when flying. Once they are fitted properly in the ear canal, they minimize pain caused by changes in air pressure and they also reduce noise. Parents of infants state that they work well, especially when they are left in place for the full flight. We recommend trying the earplugs before the flight as some kids might not want to keep them in place.

The earplugs are thought to minimize the impact of changes in pressure, which gives the ears extra time to adjust and equalize. As we stated earlier, earplugs also help in minimising the cabin’s noise levels which allow the user to rest more peacefully and this helps to reduce the impact of jet lag. There are two major benefits of rest, it helps the “tense” flyer to stay calm and relax. It also lets them equalize more effectively. Do you have ear health problems? Consult with your E.N.T. (ear, nose, and throat doctor) prior to flying.

These earplugs are just an aid, so the user has to play an active role in the prevention of discomfort. The user should plan for discomfort and try to prevent it by trying to “clear” their ears by any of the proven methods. This is most applicable during descent where discomfort happens most often. One proven method is to hold the nose, hold your breath and apply slight blowing pressure. Chewing gum is another pressure relieving trick. The gum itself isn’t the cure, it is the chewing action of the jaws along with the act of swallowing that aids with the equalization process. As a result, the chewing action or eating snacks will have the same impact.

We suggest using the earplugs for the full flight until the plane lands and the cabin gets depressurised. At Zoom Health we have a full range of earplugs for flying and travel.
